Music Education at Webster University

The BM in Education degree leads to certification from the State of Missouri to teach music in grades K-12. Two tracks are available: Choral and General Music, and Instrumental and General Music. Dr. Trent Patterson leads this program, with contributions from other full-time faculty members and an army of master practitioners who bring extensive experience to methods and techniques classes.

All music education majors take courses in music theory and history, applied music, teaching pedagogy and techniques, and teaching methods. Some courses are taken from Webster’s School of Education. At the end of classroom studies, you’ll spend a semester student teaching. We often have a senior or two who student teach in a foreign country!
